A Few Years in the Life of a Transcombouger

To transcombouge is to move around the world with a purpose. A transcombouger is focused on being present while traveling. She is also able to create economic potential in order to continue to transcombouge.

What does a few years look like in the life of someone who transcombouges?

"Sometimes I stay in one place for a couple of months. In 2003 I moved to Hawaii for 6 months and lived on the Big Island and Maui. Then I made a base in Orange County, California, for a year. Over the course of that year I spent a month in Japan, weeks in Baja Mexico, a week in the Caribbean, a few times to Las Vegas, twice to Texas, twice to Oklahoma, once to Maine, up and down California multiple times. The I upped and flew to North Carolina to pick up an RV and drive it out to Jackson Hole, Wyoming, via California with stops in New Orleans, Austin and Oklahoma. Mounted a project in Jackson Hole for two months, then jetted over to Grenada, West Indies for a couple of months. While there I helped start a full-service boat repair marina, sailed to Trinidad and around Grenada. From there I went to Virginia and worked for a couple of months on various projects. Brazil was the next stop for an ayahuasca workshop. Then it was on to Beijing, China, for an intensive summer Mandarin language course. But I made sure to stop over in Ireland and England for a couple of weeks on the way. Then back to Virginia, working and preparing to move back to Paris via a few weeks in Armagnac, in the southwest of France. While in Virginia I went back to Brazil for another week of shamanic sacred plant work. After a few months in France it was time for a road trip through Central Europe. I took a flight to Bratislava after spending a week in Oxford and London. A car was rented and much driving and many stops ensued as the tires burned their way through Slovakia, Austria, Germany, Czech Republic, Poland and Hungary. The bumps along the way were Vienna, Salzburg, Munich, Cologne, Berlin, Dresden, Prague, Krakov and Budapest. Mostly pretty typical stuff. After putting thousands of miles on a rented Skoda, it was back to the United States for three months in Charlottesville and two in Philadelphia. Philadephia led to a flight to Oklahoma, a week in Arkansas followed by two weeks in Austin, where a 1995 Toyota Corolla was acquired. Much driving ensued, with stops in Albuquerque, Mew Nexico and Show Low, Arizona, on the way to Southern California. A flight was immediately taken to Belize for a sunny week of sailing up and down the second barrier reef in the world. A catamaran was acquired for the occasion. Then back to California for a few weeks before driving through Arizona, New Mexico and Texas to meet a crew for a drive and vacation on Mexico's Pacific Coast. Stops were made in Laredo, Zacatecas, Lake Chapala and Guadalajara. The final destination was Manzanillo. Of course, once all that was done I had to drive back through Texas, New Mexico, Arizona and into California. The last month I have spent here in Arizona getting ready for two months in Bahia, Brazil. From there... certainly back to the US, Puerto Rico and Grenada. Then Mexico and from there another China venture via Europe."

Certainly some must wonder how all of this is achieved! And what, if any, singularities pervade the entire journey! Indeed, that is another story.
